Student Enrolment Policy
Principle Alignment
This policy is guided by:
- Oubaitori (Blossoming in One’s Own Time): Recognises diverse student backgrounds, readiness, and circumstances.
- Bushidō (Way of Integrity): Ensures fairness, eligibility, and transparency in all admissions and enrolment practices.
- Omoiyari (Anticipatory Compassion): Proactively supports students from first inquiry, including LLN screening and transition support.
1. Purpose
To ensure all ASC student admissions are guided by clear, equitable eligibility requirements and robust governance, while providing pathways to orientation, support, and timely entry to study.
2. Scope
Applies to all students applying, enrolling, or re-enrolling in ASC qualifications (Diploma, short course, CPD programs), and to all staff processing admissions.
3. Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Australian citizen
- Australian Permanent Resident (holder of a permanent visa)
- New Zealand citizen
Additional requirements set by the Directors at application:
- Demonstrated eligibility for any exemptions, RPL/Credit Transfer, or relevant foundation/entry requirements
- Literacy, numeracy, and digital (LLN) prerequisites (see LLN and Digital Skills Assessment Procedure)
- Any course- or subject-specific entry requirements as published
4. Application and Enrolment Forms
All applications and amendments must use ASC’s official, current enrolment forms. Enrolments are not accepted on superseded forms. Forms are reviewed and updated by the Directors and administrative staff before each intake to ensure ongoing compliance with AVETMISS, NCVER, and privacy requirements. All application information is treated as confidential and managed in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
5. Admissions and Orientation
Directors and administrative staff are responsible for processing student admissions, confirming eligibility against the entry requirements in Section 3, and ensuring all forms are current and complete before enrolment is confirmed. All new students participate in an orientation programme covering ASC’s philosophy, facilities, library, and administrative processes.
Prior to final confirmation of enrolment, students undertake an LLN and digital skills assessment to determine any support or intervention needs. Where foundation learning needs are identified, students are offered appropriate support pathways before commencing study. The operational enrolment and admissions workflow is set out in the Student Enrolment Procedure.
6. Approval and Acknowledgement
Enrolment is confirmed only once all eligibility requirements are met and the application has been approved by the Directors. Students acknowledge ASC’s policies and Code of Conduct as part of the application and induction process. Confirmation of enrolment is not issued until all approvals and acknowledgements are complete.
7. Forfeiture of Enrolment
- Where an enrolled student does not attend the first two classes of any course or subject, without notification to the Directors, their place may be forfeited and offered to another applicant at the Directors’ discretion.
- Students are encouraged to make early contact in cases of incapacity, crisis, or delay to protect their place and avoid forfeiture.
8. Deferral and Re-Enrolment
Students who have been offered a place may apply to defer their commencement. Students wishing to re-enrol following withdrawal or an approved deferral do so through a structured process managed by the Directors and administrative staff. All deferral and re-enrolment conditions and processes are governed by the Student Deferral and Withdrawal Policy.
9. Student Rights and Support
- All students are treated equitably and given clear, timely information about assessment, fees, progress expectations, and support options.
- Students have a right to reasonable adjustment for disability or special needs, to transparent appeal, and to access a range of support services at any time during their studies.
