- Bushidō (Way of Integrity): Upholding fairness, honesty, and mutual responsibility in all aspects of College life.
1. Purpose
To set out the fundamental rights and responsibilities of ASC students, supporting a safe, inclusive, high-quality learning environment and ASC’s shared commitment to the advancement of Shiatsu and Oriental Healing Arts.
2. Scope
Applies to all registered ASC students (diploma, short course, CPD, online), regardless of format, location, or stage in the learning journey.
3. Student Rights
All ASC students have the right to:
- Study in an environment free from any form of harassment, bullying, discrimination, vilification, or victimisation — including antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, and other forms of religiously or ethnically motivated hatred — both online and in person
- Be treated with dignity, courtesy and respect by all members of the College community (staff and students).
- Access high quality teaching, supervision, and learning resources, as well as reasonable access to training, Clinic, and administrative staff.
- Pursue educational and career goals to the best of their ability, acknowledging diverse backgrounds, circumstances, and needs.
- Request reasonable adjustment or support for disability, special needs, or in cases of hardship or unique circumstances.
- Accurate, timely, and sufficient information regarding courses, assessment, enrolment, fees, academic requirements and College processes.
- Seek review or appeal of any assessment result or consequential decision (such as progression, academic/disciplinary outcome) under College policy.
- Receive clear advice and support for review/appeal processes and on using College complaints channels.
- Provide constructive feedback, raise concerns, and access policies relevant to their learning, support, academic integrity, and use of AI.
- Expect confidentiality and privacy of all personal information, including academic progress, to be rigorously maintained according to College and legal standards.
- Access this Charter and all referenced policies at orientation, via the Student Handbook, online (website/LMS), or on request.
4. Student Responsibilities
Every ASC student is expected to:
- Uphold the commitments, duties and responsibilities outlined in this Charter, the Diploma/Short Course program, and relevant College policies and procedures.
- Treat all others with courtesy, respect, and fairness at all times, actively fostering and supporting an environment that is safe, inclusive, and free from harassment, discrimination, and vilification in any form — including conduct that incites hatred or contempt based on race, religion, ethnicity, or other protected attributes, whether in person or online.
- Engage honestly in all academic work: produce original work, uphold principles of scholarly and professional integrity, avoid plagiarism/collusion, and follow the College’s Academic Integrity Policy, Plagiarism Policy, and Code of Conduct Policy – Students and Staff.
- Take an active role in College community life: contribute positively to class, Clinic, and College operations; make best use of available resources; help maintain a healthy, harmonious learning environment for others.
- Be responsible and proactive in communications: stay informed about progress, deadlines, and College notices; seek support quickly if needing help with academic or personal challenges.
- Keep contact and personal details up to date, and use official communication channels for College matters.
- Raise issues or concerns about support, fairness, safety, assessment, discrimination, bullying, or course delivery promptly with College Directors or staff, using complaints, appeals, or feedback systems.
5. Implementation, Review, and Publication
- This Charter is published online, issued at orientation, appears in the Student Handbook, and is reviewed at least biennially for regulatory, College, and sector alignment.
- All new or updated versions will be circulated to students with clear notice of changes to rights or responsibilities.
- Definitions of harassment, bullying, discrimination, vilification, antisemitism, and other relevant terms are provided in the Code of Conduct Policy – Students and Staff (Section 3 — Definitions).
- Students are encouraged to actively contribute to improving ASC by offering feedback and helping strengthen College culture for future cohorts.
